About Me

My photo
Delicate designs with an illustrative edge - highly detailed surface pattern and illustration, inspired by life and created with love. Sarah Fleming is a graduate of Cleveland College of Art & Design, where she studied Textiles and Surface Design, specialising in design for the home furnishings and greetings market. Inspired by the detail and beautiful patterns found in nature and her surroundings, Sarah is motivated to achieve beautiful, highly informative observational drawings. She showed an interest in Art from a very early age and has developed a great passion for Textiles and Surface Design. This huge passion spurs her on to work extremely hard, full of enthusiasm to create new and exciting design ideas. Sarah has developed a detailed, tight drawing style which helps her to achieve her beautiful observational drawings. However, she is also able to work in a very sketchy, illustrative style too - showing her as a very versatile designer, capable of adapting where relevant to confidently produce designs for both the commercial and more niche markets. Fable - Fashion Fabrics

These are my final 3 garment shapes for the Fashion Fabrics project.
I found All Saints and Laura Lees work very influential during this project, although those and the other fashion research I came across didn't contain very much embroidery. Given that this was an embroidery based project this was a great challenge for me, and embroidery is not one of my stronger skills so I am fairly pleased with the outcomes I've managed to achieve.

Fable

I have chosen the Fable theme from Mix trend forecasting journal for my fashion fabrics project; twisted fairytales, dreamy, surreal, Tim Burton inspired.
This work could potentially go to Paris Indigo which is a huge trade show where people in the industry flock from all over the world, so it is very exciting!
Below are a few snapshots of my initial drawing sheets...

The Bradford Textile Society Competition

These are my four final boards for my entry into The Bradford Textile Society Competition! I got a first for this project which was a great start to my second year at CCAD. I am very proud of what I have produced and it shows that hard work pays off. Being entered into such a prestigious competition is very exciting!!

Busy bee

First day back at CCAD after a longer than expected Christmas break - (only good thing about the snow - getting to spend some time at home with the family!)
Haven't posted in a while, been busy catching up with people, enjoying the festivities and doing bits of uni work here and there!
Dissertation talks this morning and report discussions this afternoon have made it too clear how fast this year is passing; beginning to stress! But it means that our trip to Paris is getting nearer which is very exciting!
Started our fashion fabrics project just before the Christmas holidays. I chose a twisted fairytales theme and my intial drawings are looking good so far - I will post some photos up soon as well as the final display boards for my interiors project for the Bradford Textiles competition!
