- Delicate designs with an illustrative edge - highly detailed surface pattern and illustration, inspired by life and created with love. Sarah Fleming is a graduate of Cleveland College of Art & Design, where she studied Textiles and Surface Design, specialising in design for the home furnishings and greetings market. Inspired by the detail and beautiful patterns found in nature and her surroundings, Sarah is motivated to achieve beautiful, highly informative observational drawings. She showed an interest in Art from a very early age and has developed a great passion for Textiles and Surface Design. This huge passion spurs her on to work extremely hard, full of enthusiasm to create new and exciting design ideas. Sarah has developed a detailed, tight drawing style which helps her to achieve her beautiful observational drawings. Kate Usher Studio has recently blogged about their most recent monkey-jungle themed wallpaper - (yet to be named!), and I am excited to report that two of the monkeys featured in the design are ones that I drew whilst on my placement at the studio!!
The tangerine coloured monkey and the baby monkey climbing the vine are the two I created the drawings for; I am really proud and excited to have them feature in the wallpaper.
I think the design looks great, it has such a jungle feel about it and works really well; would look fab in a little boys bedroom as a feature wall!
Over the past few weeks I have been taking part in a work placement with Kate Usher Studio.
It has been a brilliant experience, finally getting the chance to gain some insight into how things work in the industry.
I went to Kate's studio space in Gateshead every tuesday for 6weeks - not a typically long placement but I have learnt so much!
I produced a lot of drawings for the various designs she is creating for her most recent collection, some of which are pictured below, and assisted Kate with ideas on layouts, colours and imagery with her Photoshop design work. It is a really exciting prospect that there is a possibility to have my own drawings put into a wallpaper design that is going to be seen by so many people!
