Delicate designs with an illustrative edge - highly detailed surface pattern and illustration, inspired by life and created with love.
Sarah Fleming is a graduate of Cleveland College of Art & Design, where she studied Textiles and Surface Design, specialising in design for the home furnishings and greetings market.
Inspired by the detail and beautiful patterns found in nature and her surroundings, Sarah is motivated to achieve beautiful, highly informative observational drawings.
She showed an interest in Art from a very early age and has developed a great passion for Textiles and Surface Design. This huge passion spurs her on to work extremely hard, full of enthusiasm to create new and exciting design ideas.
Sarah has developed a detailed, tight drawing style which helps her to achieve her beautiful observational drawings. However, she is also able to work in a very sketchy, illustrative style too - showing her as a very versatile designer, capable of adapting where relevant to confidently produce designs for both the commercial and more niche markets.

Over summer, we had the pleasure of working with the incredibly talented and lovely Sarah Fleming, a surface design graduate from the UK. Sarah boarded and worked with us for a month, creating beautiful surface patterns to be featured in our own ‘Bespoke Living’ rangeof textiles, cushions and wallpapers. As a young designer, Sarah had already undertaken a very successful internship with Kate Usher Studio in the UK where she also has some of her drawings featured in their wallpaper range.
Sarah’s style is wonderfully versatile, hand drawing everything from delicate floral designs to detailed damasks and funky geometrics and then creating repeats and colourways in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. We can’t thank Sarah enough for her fabulous contribution to our business. She became part of the family during her month’s stay and we miss her immensely. Sarah will continue to work on designing for us from afar. Aah, the joys of cyberspace. Come back soon Sarah!
During mid February - mid March, I had the pleasure of interning with the lovely Suzi Kerr and Denis Spooner from Belladonna Digital Imaging in Strathewen, Australia. I flew over from the UK and they very kindly let me stay with them for a month whilst completing my internship. During my time there we visited lots of places in and around Melbourne and I was completely inspired by everyone and everything. I met some fantastic people whom I hope to keep in touch with and work with in the future. For my internship, I was responsible for creating beautiful surface patterns to be featured in Belladonna's very own ‘Bespoke Living’ rangeof textiles, cushions and wallpapers. As a young designer, I think it is really important for me to gain as much industry experience as possible which Suzi and Denis definitely helped me with during my internship. Not only was I lucky enough to draw and design for their first collection of designs but Suzi also allowed me the chance to develop my knowledge of the business side of things. This involvedaccompanying her to meetings with clients, lunches with ladies in the Interiors market in Australia and giving me fantastic advice if I were to start up a business of my own. At this point I would also like to thank Tamara Schneider of Funky Wombat Textiles for all of her help, advice and support too! With the inspiring people and places that surrounded me it was inevitable that I would produce some of the best design work that I feel I have ever done.
My brief was to create drawings for two different collections - geometric and nature inspired (with perhaps a few damasks thrown in there somewhere!) This was something I was very excited about as I had played around with both themes during my Final Major Project at University and I knew these trends were huge in Australia so I wanted to add my twist to them! So, here's a few samples and product shots of my designs for Belladonna Digital Imaging *please note these images are subject to copyright, please do not use without permission*
What do you guys think?

I thought I would start off my posts about my trip to Australia with one all about the animals that I encountered during my 4 weeks there because lets face it, we all love them!!
I think its only fair to start with Tully, Suzi & Denis' dog!
She is a lovely Rottweiler who endlessly entertained me with her crazyness.
Koalas having a cuddle whilst napping at Healesville Wildlife Sanctuary
I definitely wanted to sneak one into my suitcase to bring back home!
Budgies at the Healesville Wildlife Sanctuary
I was quite excited to see these as I have one of my own at home and they are beautiful birds
Kangroos having a nosey at me taking their photograph during one of my evening drives with Suzi to find them!
They are the cutest things, I grew ever so fond of them during my trip
And I could not write this post without showing you a couple of the HUGE huntsmen spiders I came across!!!
This was the first one that I spotted on my first evening there. Casually in the bathroom cleaning my teeth when I look in the mirror to find this beast lurking on the wall behind me. I have to admit I was terrified of seeing them before I went but, although they are absolutely massive, they didn't bother me too much... as long as they were stationary!
Another huntsmen - quite an ugly one!
Suzi is convinced they are from planet 'Arachny' and are beamed down to earth to scare us, and I have to say they do look quite alien!
Here are a few meerkats to finish off the post with some cute furryness
This one was quite a character, posing in the bushes for the camera!
Baby meerkats digging holes
Poser! How cute!
Family of meerkats having a snooze in the shade at Melbourne Zoo
I have spent the past 4 weeks in Australia interning with a print company.
As you can expect, my feet haven't touched the floor and I am buzzing with new ideas and have lots of stories to share!
Currently working on re-branding my business as I work towards setting myself up and chasing my life long dreams, so please bear with me as I prepare lots of interesting posts for you and continue with the exciting new re-vamp of my blog!
