About Me

My photo
Delicate designs with an illustrative edge - highly detailed surface pattern and illustration, inspired by life and created with love. Sarah Fleming is a graduate of Cleveland College of Art & Design, where she studied Textiles and Surface Design, specialising in design for the home furnishings and greetings market. Inspired by the detail and beautiful patterns found in nature and her surroundings, Sarah is motivated to achieve beautiful, highly informative observational drawings. She showed an interest in Art from a very early age and has developed a great passion for Textiles and Surface Design. This huge passion spurs her on to work extremely hard, full of enthusiasm to create new and exciting design ideas. Sarah has developed a detailed, tight drawing style which helps her to achieve her beautiful observational drawings. However, she is also able to work in a very sketchy, illustrative style too - showing her as a very versatile designer, capable of adapting where relevant to confidently produce designs for both the commercial and more niche markets. John Lewis & I

So, this week I had confirmation of my work placement with John Lewis this coming September.
I am thrilled to finally share this exciting news with you and I am really looking forward to visiting their head design studio in London. I am sure it is going to be an amazing opportunity for me and I am more than ready to soak up the invaluable information I am sure I will gain through this great experience!

I thought it only right to share with you some of my favourite designs from the John Lewis collections.
They stock some of my favourite companies like Harlequin and Sanderson, but I love their own design collections; so elegant, sophisticated and homely.

What do you think?

Beautiful designs aren't they?
Be sure to visit the John Lewis website for much more lovely-ness!

Tigerprint Female Surface Pattern contest

I decided to enter 4 designs into the Tigerprint competition for 'Female Surface Pattern'.

I wanted to think a little more outside the box and try to avoid the standard florals and girly accessories.

Hope you like them!
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Testimonial - from Suzi Kerr @ Belladonna Digital Imaging

Thank you so much to Suzi Kerr and Denis Spooner of Belladonna Digital Imaging for this fantastic reference regarding my internship with their company in Australia earlier this year.

Re: Miss Sarah Fleming - Surface Pattern Designer & Illustrator

We are delighted to provide this testimonial for Miss Sarah Fleming.

From February to March 2013 Sarah undertook an internship as a surface pattern designer with our business. During her month in Australia, Sarah also boarded with us. We did not know Sarah prior to her visit. She took the initiative to contact us after learning about our business via social

Work Ethic
Sarah has a very strong work ethic. She is absolutely committed to her craft and was keen to learn everything she could whilst here. Even though our business has a fairly relaxed atmosphere, Sarah never once took advantage of that. She was at work early every morning and we often had to prize her away from her task at the end of the day.

Ability to follow a brief
Sarah's brief was to produce designs suitable for wallpaper and fabrics for cushions and lampshades. We asked her to focus on two styles - geometric patterns and designs inspired by nature. Having given Sarah this basic brief, she set to the task with admirable diligence. Not once did we have to prompt her to remain on task. Sarah researched the type of designs and colour ways that are currently popular in Australia, even visiting new display homes for ideas.

Sarah then produced some beautiful drawings which she scanned into the computer and, using both Photoshop and Illustrator, turned into repeat patterns. We work with several interior design professionals and the feedback from them regarding Sarah's work has been incredibly positive.
They love her designs and so do we! There has been interest from interior designers in purchasing cushions with Sarah's patterns and a designer has just included one of her designs in an ebook feautring their favourite textile patterns.

Attitude & Skill
Sarah is an absolute pleasure to work with. She is professional and cooperative and works well autonomously. She also became very much part of our team and gets on well with everyone.
She is a highly gifted, creative talent, capable of producing everything from delicate and intricate floral designs to bold and quirky geometrics.

As mentioned, Sarah also boarded with us during her month in Australia. Sarah settled right in like she was part of the family. She was a delight to have around and we were very sad to see her go. She is welcome back at any time. We cannot praise Sarah highly enough and would recommend her wholeheartedly to anyone looking to employ Sarah, either within their business or as a freelance designer. Her work and her attitude are, quite simply, exemplary.

Yours faithfully,

Suzi Kerr

*NEW RANGE* - Belladonna Digital Imaging

As you may already know, during February and March this year I travelled over to Melbourne Australia to intern with Belladonna Digital Imaging.
Whilst there, my role was to draw and design for two different themes - geometrics and inspired by nature. Well, Suzi @ Belladonna has finally released some more images of the 'Bespoke Living' range via their facebook page and I am excited to be able to share them with you here today!

Each design is exclusive to Belladonna Digital Imaging and can be customised in terms of colour, repeat size and pattern orientation.
They can also be printed as wallpaper, fabric by the metre, and made up cushions.

We have received excellent feedback so far in both the UK and Australia, with interest from several interior designers which is fantastic!!
We would love to hear what you think?!

Recommendation/Review from Mr & Mrs Williams

Recentley Me and my (now wife) Alex Williams were organising our wedding.

When it came to selecting invitations and wedding stationary, we looked at all of the mainstream companies and web based producers, but found it difficult to find one capable of meeting out specific needs.

We approached our friend Sarah Fleming an Art & design graduate who specialises in design for home furnishings and the greetings market.

From the very beginning the level of professional service was up to and exceeding that of any mainstream company, she also has the personal approach that made us both feel at ease with the process and left us in no doubt that the products would meet our expectations without compromise.

Normally in a review there would be a section about the negatives and possible improvements, but in this case there genuinely are no flaws to the service or products we received, I am sure all of our guests would concur, the stationary and invites were exceptional.

We are both extremely delighted to have had Sarah play a part in our celebration. And we have no hesitation in recommending Sarah to everyone and anyone who is looking for anything similar.

Please visit her design page below to view pictures from our wedding and her vast and brilliant portfolio.
